English Proficiency

Prospective students whose first language is not English are required to provide proof of English proficiency prior to admission. Accepted methods for the demonstration of English proficiency at GCU included but are not limited to:

Examination Options

1.TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) score:

  • Paper test: 173 (213 for graduate programs) or higher
  • Internet-based test: 60 or higher

Instructional Option

1. Take English 1001 and 102 (first-year composition), or their equivalent, at an accredited U.S. institution and earn a minimum 2.5 combined GPA for the two courses

2. Submit proof of a BA degree earned at an accredited US institution

3. Achieve a score of  71 or higher on GCU's ESOL placement test, or

4. Thoese who can't show proof of English proficiency must take the GCU ESOL placement test, enroll in the ESOL program and pass the program
